NOTE:We end up with the last section of 1 John, and return to the challenge of C.T. Studd to this book: “The Five Smooth Stones of David!” Studd saw the “Proofs of the New Birth” contained in this book in the analogy of the Five Stones.

In 1 John 5:1 we see the Fourth Proof of those begotten of God: they believe that Jesusis the Christ! It is amazing how so many professing Christians are unable to make this confession! No demon can make this confession! And any human being who is demonized -- especially by a “religious” spirit -- is completely incapable of making such a confession!

The Fifth Proof is in 1 John 5:4 -- “because whatever is begottenof :God overcomes the world! When we see a believer -- not sinlessly perfect -- but truly an overcomer of the world-- then we have a proof beyond doubt that we have a believer begotten of God!

But in 1 John 5:18 we have these wonderful words of the Spirit through the apostle John: “We know that every onebegotten of :God keeps himself, and the evil one touches him not.” Mr. Studd did not commit himself to these last two references as proofs of the birth from above -- yet God is saying something here that bears much benefit from earnest pondering and meditation.

Challenge: Memorize these verses containing the proofs God expects to be manifested in the life of every professing believer -- young or old -- male or female -- rich or poor -- educated or uneducated.

I believe Judah is a worthy tribe to associate this letter with! Praisesprings forth from all those with this Spirit-given begetting. It well matches with Philippians 4:8 -- “If there be any praise, take account thereof!” J.A.W.
